GUIDE TO SPECIFICATIONS - BASIC SUBSCRIPTION
The manufacturers specifications on which the following data is sourced, may be changed without notice, we cannot stress the importance of reconfirming specifications with the manufacturer prior to irrevocable decisions being taken. The specifications are arranged in spreadsheet form, with columns and rows. Each engine model has its own row, with the same specification arranged in columns. The specification records for the four engine types, are arranged in a similar style, however each engine type contains variations of information. The four types are: (1) inboards, (2) propulsion systems including stern drives, saildrives and waterjets, (3) outboards (fossil fuels) and (4) electric outboards.
DATA FIELD NAMES:

MODEL NAME = Model type/name.
MODEL SERIES = Model series of group
NUMBER OF CYLINDERS
- POWER (kW): Highest crankshaft brake power (except outboards) quoted for the model, in kW.
- POWER (HP): Highest crankshaft brake power (except outboards) quoted for the model, in HP (746W).
- POWER (mHP): Highest crankshaft brake power (except outboards) quoted for the model, in metric HP (736W).
RATED RPM: The rpm at which the POWER was measured.
RATIO POWER/DISPLACEMENT: kW/ltr: Ratio of output power (kW) to swept volume (ltrs).
RATIO WEIGHT/POWER: kg/kw: Ratio of weight (kg) to power (kW), Weight KEY shows which weight is used.
RECORD NUMBER = ID reference.
STROKE = Piston stroke.
SWEPT VOLUME = Swept volume, calculated from bore, stroke & number of cylinders.
TORQUE (Nm): The maximum torque in Nm, developed at the rated rpm.
TOTAL HEIGHT: Overall height, see DIMENSION CODE.
TYPE OF PRODUCT = Inboard, outboard, saildrive, sterndrive, waterjet
WEIGHT KEY: Weight measurement key,
- Dry weight engine only,
- Wet weight engine only,
- Dry weight engine and transmission,
- Wet weight engine and transmission.
WEIGHT: Weight of engine with/out transmission see weight code for details.
WIDTH: Overall width, see DIMENSION CODE.
SPECIAL NOTE FOR STERN DRIVES:
The available outdrive(s) for each model is listed instead of data on engine torque. LENGTH is measured from forward point of engine to intersection of crankshaft centre line and transom. Transmission in the weight KEY includes the weight of the engine and outdrive.
SPECIAL NOTE FOR SAIL DRIVES:
The DIMENSION CODES indicate the overall LENGTH and WIDTH dimensions applicable to the size of the engine plus mounting bed, not just the external dimensions of the engine.
SPECIAL NOTE FOR WATERJETS:
The DIMENSION CODES including transmission indicate that the overall LENGTH includes the engine and pump unit. Transmission in the weight KEY includes the weight of the engine and pump unit
SPECIAL NOTE FOR OUTBOARD MOTORS:
POWERS (kW) & (HP): indicate the power at the propeller shaft.
- FNR SHIFT: indicates gear shift possibilities,
- FWD = forward gear only,
- F/N = forward with neutral clutch,
- FNR = full gear shift.
START SYS M/E: identifies starting system used,
- ELE = electric start,
- M+E = manual and electric start.
- MAN = manual start,
Note: all electric start engine offer an emergency manual start possibility).
FUEL TANK INT/SEP: capacity of integral or separate fuel tank. If both are shown engine may run on either.
WEIGHT: is for complete outboard, dry, but including gear oil.
ROTATION PROP: COUNTER in this column indicates the outboard is a counter rotation model for use in twin installations.
TRANSOM HEIGHTS: The actual transom heights in mm are given for each nominal S, L, XL, or XXL* shaft length.
